Upgrade 12.04LTS to 14.04 LTS, problems and fixes

Command line

do-release-upgrade -d

update-manager -d

Python=> ImportError: No module named _io

Install python-dev fixes this. And you will need to recreate your virtual environments

sudo apt-get install python-dev

My ibus-pinyin is broke.

My ibus-pinyin got messed up after the upgrade. seems like it was changed to "ShuangPin" mode? but anyway, running

ibus-daemon -drx

fixes the problem

My gnome don't have language support, can't change add/remove language

sudo apt-get install language-selector-gnome

Gnome 3.10 does not remember the "screen display" settings

Turns out that gnome-settings-daemon doesn't load .config/monitors.xml at startup. Kill and restart gnome-settings-daemon seems to fix the problem.

so a workaround would be to run this command as a "Startup Application"

pkill -9 -f gnome-settings-daemon

gnome-session will automatically restart the daemon:

grep X-GNOME-AutoRestart=true /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-settings-daemon.desktop

I also tried to update to gnome 3.12 using this PPA:

add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging

but this problem remains

I will keep updating this post if i find more problems...
